Introducing WOMAN: The New Donna Karan Fragrance
Bottle design by Zaha Hadid
Our fragrance bottles have always been a work of art, thanks to my husband Stephan who designed them. Many are considered iconic, including the frosted Cashmere Mist bottle and the Be Delicious apple, inspired by one of Stephan’s last works. So when we were developing our newest fragrance WOMAN, I knew the bottle had to be truly special. The first person I thought of was the international architect Zaha Hadid, whose distinctive sculptural buildings can be seen around the world. I have long adored and greatly respect Zaha as a woman, an artist and a friend. It was an honor when she accepted the commission to design our bottle. The creative process was hers and hers alone, as it was when I worked with Stephan. I wanted Zaha to create something that said Woman to her – something sensual, soft, strong and a bit mysterious. The result says it all. Zaha was inspired by the curvature and individuality of a woman. The lines are rounded and powerful, and there’s that sense of grace, fluidity and movement that speaks to being a woman. As a sculpture, it’s incredibly sensual, begging to be touched. You just want to hold it in your hands. I absolutely love it, and thank Zaha for creating such a beautiful and personal work of art to be enjoyed by women all over the world.
